POETRY COMPETITION
The Museum is hosting the American Institute for Archaeology(AIA)-Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) Archaeology Fair on March 5 and 6, 2010 MPM and is sponsoring a poetry competition for Wisconsin elementary and high school students from grades 3 through 12. This program will encourage creative expression and the development of written language skills while providing teachers with a context within which to meet the WMAS for English Language Arts. (B4.1, 4.2, B8.1, 8.2; B12.1, 12.2.)
Theme: Archaeology: the study of past human life and culture through the things—pottery, tools, mummies, buildings and tombs, among others—that people leave behind.
Deadline: February 16, 2010 (see http://www.mpm.edu/education/special/poetry-competition for more submission details)
Who is eligible: The competition is open to all Wisconsin students in the following three grade categories: Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12.
Criteria: Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, imagery, artistic quality, and sense of poetic expression.
Poetry reading at the Museum: The winners will be invited to read their poems at the Museum during the AIA fair on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

MILWAUKEE– The community’s holiday season get it’s official kick-off at 9:30AM on Nov 21 with the 83rd annual Milwaukee Holiday Parade, which features more than 100 units of entertainment, lavish floats, huge character balloons, live animals, high school bands and recognizable local talent.
Johnson Controls is combining its sponsorships with Food for Familes, a program of the Hunger Task Force. More than 300 volunteers from CIP (Community Involvement Program) will be on hand to collect nonperishable food donations. By bringing a nonperishable food donation, parade-goers can help to bring hope and thanksgiving to those in need.

World Harvest Community Church invites the public to join them as they perform a reenactment of the Christmas Story with actors, narration and live animals!
Performances run every 30 minutes starting at 6:30 PM and ending at 8PM at the World Harvest Community Church 1500 S West Lane in New Berlin.

MILWAUKEE — On Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 9AM World Outreach & Bible Training Center under the leadership of Pastors Ervin & Melva Henderson will once again host “The Milwaukee Give”, a hunger relief effort donating food to families with children in the Greater Milwaukee area. Last year World Outreach fed over 400 families, this year their goal is 1000 families!
Those interested in participating in “The Milwaukee Give” hunger relief effort must live within the Greater Milwaukee area and must have children under the age of 18 living in the household.
Utilizing a semi truck packed with food, personal care items and pallets of assorted goods, 1000 families within the Milwaukee area will be able to receive one box of food & toiletries items. Vouchers are required and available by contacting World Outreach Center at 414-962-0600.
